The Slovakiana Culture Portal Up and Running
The Slovakiana Culture Portal was launched in November 2015. It makes the results of digitisation of Slovak cultural heritage available to the both, expert and general public. The portal forms a part of a network of European culture portals led by the Europeana portal. The content of the portal will be continuously updated in line with the progress of cultural heritage digitisation. You will be kept up to date.
Census Records Available to the Public
If you have already looked for census records at SLOVAKIANA you might have wondered why their descriptive parts are almost all inked out. You have probably understood it correctly by thinking that it was in order to protect personal data which appear in such records and the protection of which is enacted as per Act No. 122/2013 Coll. on personal data protection and on amendments to certain acts as arising from amendments implemented by Act No. 84/2014 Coll.

Incorporation of census records in the digitisation process has given the Slovak National Archive (SNA) new opportunities on the basis of which its employees can make individual census records available to you in the electronic form. Thanks to digitisation a basic set of information is available online, such as district, city/town, street, house number, year and numbers of census records, according to which SNA employees can make digitised versions of originals accessible or prepare their copies. In most of the cases, the SNA provided census records in its premises as a copy of the original record as they were trying to protect such record against destruction. Thanks to digitisation, however, it is no longer necessary to spend hours looking for such record and make its copy. Thanks to working with digitised content, they are able to quickly look up each record and provide a relevant source for any visitor in the SNA.

It is easy to go through a huge number of census records from all over Slovakia and to search for a particular one thanks to data such as district, city/town or street. Note: We have experienced some difficulties when searching by village. The issue is being solved.

The information on work with census records is provided by the Slovak National Archive on its Facebook site.
