The SFI safeguards the film heritage of the Slovak Republic and makes it accessible. The primary organizational unit of the SFI for the protection and renewal of audiovisual heritage is the National Film Archive and for the purpose of enabling public access: The National Centre for Cinematography. The SFI is administered by the cinema Lumière, with four theatres, whose program concept is focused on Slovak film, European cinematography and archive cinema.
Within the national project Digital Audio vision, the SFI has built a special workspace within said cinema for the digitalization of film. In the digitalization workspace of the SFI, Slovak cinematographic pieces are digitalized and digitally restarted, from the collections of the National Film Institute.
