The Slovak National Gallery is the highest central gallery institution of Slovakia. The basic mission of the SNG is to systematically and ambitiously gather, professionally process, protect, document, make accessible and utilize for cultural education purposes art pieces of all fine-art disciplines of local and foreign origin from the separate historical eras as well as current; with a certain priority for Slovak culture. The SNG currently has four main locations – Zvolen, Strazky, Ruzomberok and Pezinok. It holds over 60 000 pieces in its collection.
The SNG has joined the cultural heritage digitalization efforts via the project Digital Gallery, within the scope of which it will digitalize 100 100 pieces of visual art from 18 galleries. The results are published continuously on the webumenia portal.
